remake dari lagu "We Are the World" milik mendiang Michael Jackson taon 1985, direkam selama 14 jam oleh 80 artis lebih, dan dirilis tgl 12 Feb 2010 bertepatan pembukaan Winter Olympic 2010.

Artists for Haiti adalah kumpulan lebih dari 80 artis dengan semangat amal untuk membantu pemulihan Haiti. Asal muasal proyek ini adalah niatan Quincy Jones untuk memberi tribute kepada mendiang Michael Jackson, berkaitan dengan peringatan 25 tahun single amal untuk Afrika ‘We Are The World‘. Niat mulia ini disambut baik oleh Lionel Richie yang merupakan sahabat karib sekaligus penulis lagu tersebut bersama sang mendiang. Semangat ini semakin menggebu setelah peristiwa gempa dahsyat di Haiti 12 Januari lalu. Awalnya nama-nama yang diajak untuk proyek ini oleh Quincy Jones adalah Taylor Swift, Beyonce, dan Lady Gaga. Tapi tak satupun dari 3 nama tersebut yang berhasil gabung di dalamnya. Tapi tak membuat khidmat lagu ini berkurang. Karena We Are The World 25 For Haiti direkam oleh lebih dari 80 of today’s biggest names in music and movies.

Intro lagunya seperti pembukaan siaran dunia dalam berita ya?! Tapi paling enggak aransemen yang dibuat oleh Rickey Minor modern dan tidak norak. Produser RedOne juga menyatakan bahwa dalam penggarapan single ini tujuan utamanya adalah untuk didengar lebih kini dan benar-benar ‘in’ tapi tetap ingin mempertahankan “class of the original one” dan tidak ingin merusaknya. Seminggu berkutat dengan ide dan tema, hingga akhirnya seluruh artis bisa rekaman di tanggal 1 Pebruari. 14 jam dihabiskan untuk merekam suara lebih dari 80 artis tersebut di Henson Recording Studio di Beverly Boulevard di kota Los Angeles, California.

Membaca berita dengan begitu banyaknya artis yang ikut campur dalam single ini pasti akan menjadi sesuatu yang rumit, tapi syukurnya hasilnya tidak se-berisik yang dibayangkan sebelumnya. 27 nama di antara mendapatkan bagian solo, 8 rapper gabung untuk moment rap mereka, dan 2 gitaris handal unjuk gigi di bagian verse dan chorus, dan yang lainnya berpaduan suara menyanyikan bagian chorusnya. Tidak ada bentrok, tapi harmonisasi yang damai tercipta. Meskipun di beberapa perpindahan penyanyi sangat kontras beda suaranya. Seperti saat Jennifer Hudson bergantian dengan Jennifer Nettles. Hudson terdengar sangat stand out. Begitu juga di bagian Celine Dion, saat dia menyanyikan liriknya dengan lengkingan khas-nya.

Namanya juga solois, mereka dengan ciri masing-masing memadukan suara menjadi melodi yang indah. Khusus untuk Janet, dia diberikan bagian yang sama dengan MJ nyanyikan 25 tahun lalu. Haiti native Wyclef Jean juga diberikan lirik berbahasa Kreol. Yang menarik perhatianku adalah vokal Mary J Blige, Barbra Streisand, dan Nicole Scherzinger yang ajaibnya terdengar persis. Kamu bisa mendengar ulang lagunya dengan panduan lirik di bawah ini dan dengarkan kemiripan suara 3 vokalis tersebut. Bagian rap-nya memiliki lirik yang inspiratif. Dan di bagian akhir, saat nama negara tanah air kita tercinta Indonesia raya ini disebutkan, maksudnya adalah beberapa massive disaster yang terjadi belakangan seperti Kartina dan Afrika, dan sekarang Haiti yang membutuhkan uluran tangan kita.
